The village of Middleton-on-Sea is delightful and designated an “Area of Special Character”, largely thanks to one man’s foresight to plan a village community particularly suited to the seaside and with its own facilities. The village contains a network of paths called “twittens” and has little traffic (except on the main road) so walking is a pleasure, and it is also great for junior cyclists. There is a good range of shops including a newsagent, post office (with basic food provisions), butcher, fish & chip shop, off-licence and several more. Just a few hundred metres away in Elmer are further shops including a One-Stop, Indian restaurant, pubs etc. Middleton farm shop is good for vegetables whilst Bairds Farm Shop in Climping is good for everything! There are numerous places to eat in the surrounding area.
